how orchids live...

In Saint Paul, Minnesota, stowed inside a balmy greenhouse safe from the shock of sub-zero temperatures on the other side.

finding feet

With both hands I push the glass door and am instantly joined with the 5:25pm hustle of C street. I always pass the corner drug store and see something. Yesterday, on the metal postcard rack I saw a picture of a very content looking Dachsund with "Vacationing in San Diego" printed in pink letters. I kept walking and looked down at the wet spots on the sidewalks and since it doesn't rain very often I wondered if it was someone's spilled soda, a/c condensation or pee (from people or pets). I haven't seen Moobs around lately but the theme yesterday wasn't fatty pecs, it was feet. There's a 50ish looking woman at my bus stop who always wears a jacket, a jean skirt, long leg warmers and flip flops on her feet. The site of her toes at the end of 2 feet of solid sock always surprises me. Yesterday she had on shoes. No surprise, disappointment. The 4'8" chinese lady was also waiting and she had sandals on her super tiny feet. I paused for a few seconds to text on my phone and when I looked over at her again she had put on athletic socks. I'm impressed at old ladies with magic bags filled with exactly the right things. I'm also amused at how orange pidgeon's feet are. I've telepathically put the question to the pidgeons "why are your feet orange?". I am still waiting for the answer.

Robert Irwin @ MCASD

Anyone who cares about architecture or flourescent strip lights needs to go this show!
When finished marvelling at the early 2-D works, the large installation and conceptual drawings, hop the red trolley to Little Italy and have a moscarpone filled canneloni and mocha. Then go to sleep and dream of red, yellow and blue.

Another excursion of the Hungry Hikers led by the elusive Joel Fentin. We hiked across the border for some Italian food (TJ style) and cabbed out almost losing Isa when the driver went la vida loco and took off with her hanging out the door. Fortunately, all were accounted for by the time we returned to the border. Top photo: The wait @ the border by car.
