New favorite house - Kew House - Australia

As seen in Architectural Record - http://archrecord.construction.com/residential/hotm/archives/0808HotM_img_6.asp

What I love about this house is it's re-use of the existing tennis court lawn and the way the three shells bring light into the interior.

The Swiss just took over Beijing

Last night, the opening ceremonies of the Olympics was SPECTACULAR. The National Stadium was like a living 3-dimensional canvas inside and out. Every performance of people and THE Place brought forth endless oohs and aahs from our group of ten, compressed into the couches of Neighbor C's living room. The building seemed as if it was a planet unto itself, reflecting every mood of its local galaxy. The feats of LED engineering, pyrotenics and consequent human choreography was breathtaking, causing lively debate between Shane and I as to how something of such scale and complexity could be synchronized so well. I think at one point there might have been one drummer who fell out of sequence during the formation of giant numerals but that was it. With every panoramic and aerial of the stadium, I wondered what the architects, Herzog and DeMeuron must be feeling seeing their work so alive and so celebrated. It must have felt like Nirvana.
